Brian Holmes, horn, is retired from San Jose State University where he taught physics of music. Having played with San Jose Symphony & Opera San Jose, he currently plays in Peninsula Symphony & the Mission Chamber Orchestra. As a composer, Brian has many commissions & publications, writing mostly for solo voice & for chorus. Composer of more than 70 Christmas carols, Brian claims to be the only past President of the American Beethoven Society you’ll meet this week.
Michael Kimbell, clarinet, studied with Donald Montanaro of the Philadelphia Orchestra and holds a DMA in composition from Cornell University. For over 25 years he has been clarinetist and resident composer with the Golden Gate Symphony, which has performed more than a dozen of his works. His compositions have also been performed in Austria, Canada, and Germany and can be heard on YouTube.
Elizabeth Lee, piano, currently studies with Hélène Wickett. She particularly enjoys playing with chamber ensembles and singers in the Peninsula area. She is recently retired from her job as a psychiatrist with the San Mateo County Health Department. Since retirement, her teacher has been able to discern that she practices more. She and Michael have been performing together for almost 30 years.
Bill Palmer, violin, is an avid chamber and orchestral musician. He is concertmaster of the Winchester Orchestra. Recent solo appearances include the Dvorák Violin Concerto and Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending. He serves on the Board of the American Beethoven Society.
Richard Sogg, piano, has studied with Beryl Rubinstein, John Delevoryas, Adolph Baller, and Menahem Pressler. He has been a soloist with the Boston Symphony, San Jose Symphony, Mission Chamber Orchestra, Nova Vista Symphony, and Master Sinfonia. In his other life, he specialized in neuro-ophthalmology and trained in Boston, Cleveland and San Francisco. He is Professor Emeritus in Ophthalmology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
